FAQ

Who should get a facial?

Almost anyone can get a facial, no matter what skin type you have. However, some medical conditions, recent injuries, surgeries, or cosmetic procedures may prevent facial treatment, so make sure to accurately report your health history in your intake form when you book! Everything I do is customized to your skin’s specific condition and biological makeup. Whether your skin is sensitive, oily, dry, mature, dehydrated, none of the above, or multiple of the above, I can create the perfect treatment and home routine for you. When you come into Ripple, while I treat your surface level skin concerns, I am also providing an experience that I hope can help relieve some of your daily stress. For me, skincare is self-care, and it is my passion to help you incorporate both of those things into your busy lifestyle.

How should I prepare for my facial?

Facial treatment preparation is vital for getting the best outcomes possible. At least one week ahead, stop using alpha-hydroxy acids (such as glycolic or lactic acid), beta-hydroxy acids (such as salicylic acid), benzoyl peroxide, and retinol. Finally, do not shave, wax, or get hair removed on the day of treatment.

What skincare treatments do you offer?

A sunscreen, moisturizer, cleanser, and serum tailored to your skin type that you should use daily. In order to keep skin healthy, we could suggest additional treatments like exfoliants and masks.

Since every skin is unique, the best facial treatments will vary. Your facial can be customized to meet your unique requirements. Whether you want to brighten, exfoliate, extract, or oxygenate your skin, we can help you reach your skincare goals and have glowing skin.

What is your extraction method?

Some estheticians use a tool to extract blackheads; others will use gloves and their own fingers. Some extraction methods are more aggressive than others, so if you have sensitive skin, some methods could lead to irritation or cause damage like scarring, broken capillaries or discoloration. If you have sensitive skin, let your esthetician know about it.

How can I maintain the results of my facial?

While the effects of a facial are not permanent, with the appropriate habits, you can extend your post-facial glow. Here are a few suggestions to keep your skin looking great for days.

  • Maintain a regular skincare regimen. At the most basic level, cleanse, moisturize, and protect your face with gentle products that will not irritate new skin. Because your face has had a specialized treatment, you should avoid alcohol-based toners, scrubs, and deep exfoliants.
  • Hydration is essential. Hyaluronic acid-based products can help bind water to the skin and protect its moisture barrier.
  • Protect your new skin. Following a facial, your skin will be especially sensitive. UVA and UVB radiation have a greater impact on fresh skin. Wear a hat outside and apply sun protection products with SPF 30 or higher every day, rain or shine.

How often should I get a facial?

In general, we recommend getting a facial every three to four weeks, which is the length of your skin’s life cycle. Younger skin rejuvenates faster than mature skin, therefore the younger you are, the less frequently you will require a facial.

How do you determine what facial treatments are best for my skin?

An esthetician will carefully evaluate your skin and ask questions to determine which facial type is ideal for you. Be open about how you take care of it at home. Your esthetician should have a variety of products and devices to accommodate diverse skin types, tones, conditions and ethnicities. If you have allergies or are taking medications, let your esthetician know. Sharing this information ahead of time can help the esthetician determine the best effective treatment option for you.

How will my skin look today, tomorrow, and next week?

Gentler treatments may allow you to resume your normal activities right after, but more intense treatments may require you to stay at home for up to one week. Acidic exfoliants may need you to stay out of the sun altogether. The esthetician should advise you about any potential downtime ahead of time.

What do you recommend for facial aftercare?

After your facial, your skin has just undergone a deep cleanse, so give it a break. Allow your skin to breathe and refrain from applying makeup. Your pores will be more open and therefore more susceptible to bacteria. Allow time for serums, creams and peels to do their work.

If you underwent a chemical peel, follow your esthetician’s advice for chemical peel aftercare to protect your skin from irritation. Stay away from exfoliating treatments and be diligent about sun protection. Finally, no picking or pulling! Be patient and allow for natural exfoliation to occur.

What take-home products do you recommend?

A sunscreen, moisturizer, cleanser, and serum tailored to your skin type that you should use daily. In order to keep skin healthy, we could suggest additional treatments like exfoliants and masks.

Since every skin is unique, the best facial treatments will vary. Your facial can be customized to meet your unique requirements. Whether you want to brighten, exfoliate, extract, or oxygenate your skin, we can help you reach your skincare goals and have glowing skin.
